It seems like My last few posts have been about link building, backlink building and using web 2.0 web apps, such as Using facebook to get back links. Funny how you tend to blog in themes isn’t it. For the most part I blog along the lines (or so it seems) of what I am currently doing. So keeping in the same vein as this, I thought I would throw my ideas on gaining backlinks to your blog. I don’t know when this all started. But I do believe it was after the last google update. It appears now that google is on the link popularity band wagon. About time if you were to ask me. I don’t think it’s enough to just have your pages ranking on google because of some SEO voodoo you’re doing. I really wish I had bookmarked the sites I saw these conversations on, at some point I’ll try to retrace my steps and share this info with you.

You HAVE GO TO HAVE other sites linking to you for you to be relevant in the search engines now. It’s like survivor really, every time a site links to you it’s a vote in the eyes of the search engines for your blog. And these votes add up. Which is where the idea of quantity VS quality links comes in.

So if you are producing content that is link worthy or worth mentioning then others are going to want to link to you, There are a number of other ways as this all happens but lets keep it simple for the mean time.

Depending on what your blog commenting strategy is, or what you’re trying to achieve. You can do this any number of ways.

Courtney Tuttle has a list of 200 or so blogs that "do Follow" You’re obviously going to want to do this with blogs that have the do follow on their comments. I’d also recommend you read Caroline-brooks Blog commenting strategy for some other great commenting strategy tips. Initially choose popular blogs in your niche from Technorati. Then go comment on the blogs with top commentator plug-in. Don’t be an idiot and spam them, …i.e the comments should be genuine and useful to these blogs. Remember that commenting is a two way street you get a backlink and the author of the post gets content that is search engine food. So it’s a give and take thing.
As your number of comments on a particular blog increases, you can get a sizable number comments on the blogs which use the plug-in with a perfect backlink for your blog.

On this plug-in your name will be displayed along with a link to the homepage of your blog. (see the image above)
Just a quick note on this. If you want traffic from these blogs, you should choose to use your main keyword you’re trying to gain search engine positioning for. So the nick name for making comment on the blogs say - your blog is about making money online and the keyword you’re trying to rank for is making money online then your comment nich name should be that keyword. Get the idea?

Within a week you can manage to get at least 50 links, if you have posted at least 5 comments in each of the 50 blogs. Make use of this plug-in for building backlinks as these links in the top commentator box doesn’t have no-follow tags.

Now that you have created a content rich valuable and entertaining blog, what you want now  is to  a fair amount of relevant public viewing of your web page.

Just follow these simple tips to gain backlinks through social networking:

3. Commenting on blogs is an excellent method of attracting backlinks. You should not only comment and attach a link to your site, but also ensure that you post it to a relevant blog post. Most importantly ensure that the blog you are commenting on is niche related. So If you have a dog training tips blog, don’t comment on a blog about female health issues. Its largely about relevance to your niche.

4. To get that all import traffic and life blood to your blog attract more traffic, do a google search for a topic relevant to your blogs niche then write a “How to” article. For example, if your blog is about dog training tips then you could post an article about “How to stop Airedale aggression”. This presents a solution to a problem and it attracts the targeted audience to click on to your link and visit your Blog.

5. Then submit your article to a social bookmarking site. Submit your blog to the popular social bookmarking sites and don’t forget to submit articles at a regular pace. You can do it yourself, or you may outsource the job to a professional content developer, I personally use a student from a local college. Yes theres a price tag! Its well the dollars.

6. Give something away. Offer something for free. For example, free software or free tips, Free e-books. Anything ‘free’ is always popular and people will love it. In short give your target audience a reason to comeback to your blog, even if it to use the software you offer on your blog, or which ever useful resources you have to offer.

7. Join some niche specific groups in your favourite social networking site.  such as FriendsWin or MySpace, or facebook, Google groups is a great place to do this and these groups also have a high presence in the SE’s. 

As you initiate the process of gaining backlinks through extensive social networking, consider the loopholes as well.

8. While creating network groups and posting articles, be careful as they might violate the Terms of Service for that particular website and get you banned.

9. Avoid putting your links on pages that are over crowded with other links. It will lower your Page Rank.

10. Don’t just Spam your links to profiles, group forums, or communities as posts. Please try to be useful and build a name for yourself, it isn’t “all about the Backlink” Social networks are just that, social networks, use them to build a network of other bloggers, and form relationships out of these.
