How To Discover Low Competition High Demand Market Niches

It seems like alot of new marketers are having a tough time finding niche markets or products that they can sell online.
So I figured being the nice guy that I am, that I would cough up a method that I use to find niche markets very quickly.
I posted about this a little while back (use ebay to find a niche blog) But I feel it needs a little updating and re-defining.
You could go about this the long way, do all kinds of keyword research and all that or you could just go right to the meat and bones of it and grab high demand products that are selling right now and build niche sites around them.
The first thing you’re going to do is go to http://hub.ebay.com/buy and prowl through the categories until you find one that suits your niche, or just choose one to create a niche site off of.
AS you can see there are a ton of niche products in these categories so you’ll definately not have a hard time finding a niche. If you’re good at this you can come with a hundred or so in just a few hours.
Ok so lets do a bit actual niche hunting here. Just so you can see what I do and How I go about it.
Remember that a big part of what you’re trying to do here is to create content around a problem that people are having and serve them up an affiliate product as a solution. This keeps it real and informative for the visitor.
Ok now for some work…. and a personal example of how this works. My girlfriend got an ipod nano for x-mas this year and had a hard time figuring out “How to Get iPod Movies” she could watch.
Ok so a quick look at ebay pulse tells me that Ipods are very popular and in high demand, this is of course obvious because they are very popular, but the point being that if you didnt know this you could determine the popularity of an item by looking at ebay pulse.
So what do people do with their ipods, they listen to music, watch movies upload pod casts to their ipods, listen to education mp3’s all sorts of things which is what makes the ipod a hot market that you can find many very specific niches for or around.
So lets look at her problem. She wants ipod movies. Ok lets go see if this is a good market to be in.
I’ll bet it is strictly because of the ipod fad right now.
So the first thing I need to determine is this.
Is there any demand for this product:
1.) High demand keyword(s) or phrases, with low competition.
How do we figure that out?
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/
Or https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
As a jumping off point. So lets go with digital points tool first and see what we end up with for How to Get iPod Movies
Ok so that was somewhat interesting people search for ipod movies using the term get
ipod movie
Free Get ipod movie
get ipod movie onto
get ipod movie video
Ok cool so lets now have a peek see at what google tool tells us
Ok, so theres a bit of a wow factor here, The highest search volume is in December (top picture) and theres no advertiser competition for that phrase.
Ok so now lets have a look at how it comes up in search. What kind of demand and supply there is for this term.
So I place the term like this in google “How to Get iPod Movies ” (brackets) and I wind up with.
Wowo there’s only results for this term, looks like it might be a thing I could actually create a niche around
Its actually only one now that I look at the picture a little closer (give me a break I’m going fast)
Ok so for now I’ll let you chew on that maybe do some practice then come back with how and where to find affiliate products for your niche site or blog and how to market that niche site you’ve just found.

Since you mentioned the DigitalPoint site, I thought a good thread presenting - in detail - a recently launched product with high demand and low competition.
See here: Low competition, high demand niche
There is no competition because there is almost no search traffic at all. You can find a ton of niches that you can own because nobody cares.
@ slim thanks for the resource, I’ll update this post to include that.
Batman you might just be right, maybe they don’t care or more likely don’t care to find out.
The above example is a long tail phrase how to get ipod movies. a top tier phrase might be ipod movies.
Generally the pre-phrase how to get, or how to is a good means to find what problems people are having, its how they search for the answer to their problems.
