How to get Relevant AdSense Ads

Filed Under (AdSense optimization tips, adsense) by shaners on 09-04-2008

As mentioned in the beginning post of this AdSense Optimization series I chose one of the websites off of john chows top 8 adsense earner list, there’s also another very good list of the top AdSensers on Moneygeeky’s post high AdSense earners and their revenue that you can apply the research tools and tips I’ll show you in this series of posts so you can uncover for yourself what they’re doing to optimize their pages for AdSense and get higher AdSense clickthrough rates (ctr).

First we’ll be looking at freeweblayouts.net

RULE # 2 Targeted traffic + targeted ads = money
The first picture I am going to show you is the Top AdSense Ad block.
What I want you to notice about this and this is the primary reason that the big dogs are earning HUGE Cheese, is that the ads are very targeted to their traffic source and desired target audience, highly targeted in fact and tightly relevant to their niche(s).

This is VERY IMPORTANT. Remember when I said you must optimize your AdSense ads to make them theme related and part of the visitors experience. This is NOT camouflaging them or trying to TRICK anyone into clicking. ie making it the only option on the page or way off of the page.

It is serving relevant optimized AdSense Ads that are thematic and relevant to the content and so are part of the page and become part of the content itself. The clicks will take care of themselves.

Notice that every link in that ad block is about MySpace, or profile back grounds or pimping profiles, glitter graphics ie Myspace layouts, or a music player for MySpace layouts!!!

HOW the hell did they get that AdSense ad so targeted?

Ok next picture, this time the Skyscraper block about half the way down the page.

freeweb-mid.jpg

Look at how tightly optimized and relevant those AdSense ads are. Every single one of them are directly related to what the visitor came to the website to see; MySpace backgrounds, layouts and MySpace ad-ons.

HOW HOW HOW you’re wondering.
Keep reading I am about to get into the nitty gritty of EXACTLY how they do it.
And how you can do this for yourself.
What you are going to do is this:

Use Firefox to strip them naked

  1. Open up your firefox browser. If you don’t have it you better go get it.
  2. You’re then going to have to get the webmaster plug-in in order to do the digging that will uncover how these AdSense masters are pulling off their huge earnings.

firefoxhighlightkw.jpgOk I’m going to assume you’ve done all that, now lets look back at this site with our eyes wide open now.
Let’s have a peek at the top half of the page to see what is really there now.
What I did was using the seo for firefox tool: Right Click and select highlight keyword.

Then enter the keyword: in this case it is myspace lay out.

It showed me this about the page elements and where the keywords are on the page:
What is important about this and the reason that the AdSense block is so highly optimized is that the adblock is basically surrounded in the “Myspace layout” keyword.

Let’s have a look at the page: using the same technique this time for just the term “Myspace”
Notice how many times that one piece of real estate has the term Myspace on it?
10 times it was used alone, but look at how they used it and in what context.

myspace-kw-highlight.jpg

From the top of the page:

  • Myspace Graphics
  • Myspace Glitter Graphics
  • Myspace layouts
  • Myspace Contact Tables
  • Myspace Ext Net Tables
  • Myspace Graphics (again)
  • Myspace Online Now Icons
  • Myspace Layouts (bottom Left)
  • Pre-Made Myspace Layouts.

Is this keyword stuffing? Who can say but man is it effective for getting highly relevant and Optimized AdSense ads.

Now Lets see how they used the term “Layout”…… You’ll have to wait for the next post
