Tips for finding a blog niche

Filed Under (How to make money blogging, how to find a blog niche) by shaners on 03-08-2008

Find a niche topic in other peoples fears

Here’s a quick video I did while floating about in a paddle boat at our cottage this weekend.

Ive had this topic on my mind for a little over a week but I didnt get around to fleshing it out until I was in the boat, go figure huh, away from the hassles of city life I get in a boat and start Video blogging.

The long version of it goes like this, for those of you who get stuck on a topic to blog about or even stuck on finding a niche to blog about. A thing you might try is to listen to the conversations you’re having with your friends and family, often times you’ll find that there is a common thread to the conversation.

For instance right now and for the last little while a hot topic has been the rising gas prices niche and all the non sense and conspiracy surrounding that, but there’s a niche to be found in that.

  • ie how to save gas,
  • gas saving tips,
  • how to use less gas, and alot of other ways you could phrase it.

People will pay to have a fear handled

Basically any topic that makes people emotional, any thing that people are afraid of they’re going to be willing to seek out a solution to that problem. And pay to have the solution solved for them.

We basically all want 2 things in life, to avoid pain and to acquire pleasure. And were ALL willing to pay to have them.

While were on the topic of things that make people emotional I may have stumbled upon a great little niche this week, I basically glossed over it on the video. I haven’t done any digging into it yet, but it lies in the pest control niche, more specifically rats. And rat control. Man you’d be surprised how much I learned this week about rats and how they work. And what damage they do to houses and building and how to get rid of rats.

We had a situation this week where a house on our block had a rat problems, which drove the street just hysterical, all the chatter and blabbering was about rats. And thing to do to stop rats getting into your house. And what to do if you have rats in your house.

Again things along this line make people just nuts and they are willing to go pay for a solution to the problem, how do I know that. I spent 75 dollars on 3 frigging metal garbage cans. Other people went so far as to go out and buy rat traps, man I can only imagine what the google searches for rat problems were, or anything in the rat problem niche.

So in short what problem do you fear, or do other that you know fear.

We’ll use weight loss because its the most common.

Did you know that obesity is the leading cause of diabetes in women and men over 40?

exactly I’ll bet you did know that.

Find an area where people are deathly afraid and you’ll find a niche with their wallets WIDE open

But you’re right, these are the types of niches that people constantly looking for answers to. Tap into it, and you’ll put yourself in front of a hungry crowd.

  2. it is very important picking a certain blog niche. just try and not pick one where there are not a lot of people interested.

  3. Hey Franklin, thanks for dropping in, hope to see more of you here.
And you are right about picking a blog niche where not many people are interested. though I am sure if you find a niche that is emotionally driven or emotionally based then you will be onto a winner
