Niche Marketing? Whats that?
Holy crap think I can use niche marketing a few more times in one sentence.
The last series of posts your read were about how to find niche markets. I thought I might add a few posts about some basics about Niche marketing.
We hear the term thrown around a lot, but unless you really understand what niche marketing is you will have a very
hard time being successful at it!
So first off lets get a definition of Niche Marketing.
The word ‘niche‘ is defined as: “A special area of demand for a product or service”.
‘Marketing‘ is defined as: “The opportunity to buy or sell”. So put together, niche marketing means buying or selling a product or service in a special area of demand. All that really means is that a product or service is being sold to the people who are most interested in that particular product or service and not to the world in general.
Many businesses use niche marketing. For example, a company that makes Telescopes and Telescope accessories
might advertise all-in-one Telescope/tripod solution to the astronomy enthusiast while at the same time advertising
single function Telescopes to a more specific User.
Deep linking within a merchants affiliate program.
Tips: Cool Telescope affiliate program. It is absolutely essential to be able to deep link with any merchant’s affiliate program. If you are going to blog or write a page on your web site about a certain class of telescopes or even a specific telescope, you need to be able to link directly to that item. Sending visitors to a merchants home page drastically cuts down on conversion rates so much that I normally don’t join any affiliate program I can’t deep link with.
One of the things that make niche marketing so attractive to sellers is that their advertising budgets go further. It
costs less to advertise to a specialized market than it does to advertise to a broader market.
Niche marketing must be designed to meet the unique needs of the targeted audience. Niche marketers must tailor their
product to meet those unique needs. If, for example, you have designed a product to make gourmet cooking easy enough
for the untrained professional to do it, those who want to be gourmet cooks will be most interested in your product.
Those who like to eat out would not.
In essence, niche marketing is selling a product or service to those who want or need the product the most.
Finding the right niche for what you have to sell isn’t really all that difficult. Just think about who the people
are who would be most interested in what you have to sell.
Use paypal shops to find hot selling products
“The idea here is that you can browse categories and find the stores that make a lot of sales. This is free live information about what is selling well online. If you don’t understand how powerful that is, then you haven’t been reading my blog enough”
Before you decide which niche market to dive into you will need to do a little research. And doing the proper keyword research is powerful You will want to make sure that the market is easily defined and reachable.
type in “allinurl: the keyword” (without the quotes), now write down how many search results is returned, if it returns under 2 thousand results then your in awesome shape to score a top 10 position but don’t give up if it returns more. Now type in “allintitle: the keyword”
Keyword research, “at its essence, is market research. It tells you what people are interested in, and in what relative numbers. Better yet, it reveals the actual language people are using when they think about those topics, which provides you with insight on how to converse with them via your blog”
You will also want to find out what your potential customer likes to do and read.
- What kind of trade articles or books do they read?
- Do they have clubs or are members of particular organizations?
- Does the group have an insane passion for their hobby or topic of interest?
- Do they eat, sleep, and breathe their hobby?
- Do they actively seek more information related to their subject?
Ask yourself, is the market small enough that you won’t have to many competitors, but still large enough for you to
make a good profit?
“Under-served vs. Not wanted
That there are few blogs on a particular topic doesn’t necessarily mean that there is some kind of seething, unmet demand, bubbling away in the nether regions of the web. Some shopping strips are empty and delapadated because nobody wants to shop there, and some niches are empty or lackluster because very few people are interested in reading blogs on the topic.
Notice the difference: very few people are interested in the topic, vs. very few people are interested in reading blogs on the topic.
Just because hundreds of people are searching for ‘wheelbarrows’ each day doesn’t that people want to read a blog about wheelbarrows. Sure, people might want to buy them — and a blog on such a topic might well make a handsome profit from AdSense — but how many people honestly want to read about wheelbarrows every day?
If you’ve ever done research on niches with the AdWords keyword tool, next time, compare the search volume between your niche idea with the search volume for your niche idea + blog. The difference can be quite remarkable.”
Most of all does the market have the money to spend?
